Who can use canvases?

✏️ People can view canvases they have access to, and users with the right workspace permissions can create their own canvases. Only the canvas creator can edit a given canvas.

Generate variants, explore ideas, and edit images with AI-powered tools in Canvas, including Edit text for identifying and editing text in images, Smart resize for creating multiple platform-specific formats at once, prompt-based edits, Change lighting, Camera angle controls for changing image perspective, and Convert options for Video or Vector output. Canvas also includes command-driven Skills for AI workflows, available from the skills button or slash-command suggestions in the chat composer. Canvases provide a dedicated space to create assets based on the content within your boards, seamlessly integrating with your existing creative workflow.

From the workspace sidebar

On the workspace sidebar, you will now find a dedicated Canvases section. Clicking this allows you to view all canvases you have worked on and those available across your workspace. Additionally, the sidebar features a collapsible Recent Canvases menu, providing quick access to the canvases you last visited.

When you navigate to the main Canvases page, you will see two tabs:

  • My canvases: Displays the canvases you created.

  • All canvases: Displays every canvas you have access to across the workspace.

From board views

When you navigate into a specific board view with a canvas attached, you will notice two tabs at the top: Content (which holds all your assets and files) and Canvases. The Canvases tab allows you to see any canvases that you or your team have created and connected specifically to this board.

To create a new canvas from within this board, use the blue Create button in the top right corner, which has replaced the previous Add button.

From canvas view

From a new canvas, you're able to see the board that your canvas is connected to. You can also move between other boards in your workspace while staying connected to that same canvas by easily toggling the sidebar open and navigating to other boards. Additionally, you can move content into the canvas from any of the boards, and any canvas asset can be moved or deleted as needed. People can open the same canvas for viewing, but Canvas does not support simultaneous co-editing, and only the canvas creator can make edits.

When the canvas panel is open, the workspace panel and canvas panel each use the full height of the screen so you can browse assets and work on the canvas side by side.

Create a new canvas to generate a new workspace where you can create AI-powered assets based on the board's content.

From the title's edit menu (three dots) you'll have options to rename the canvas, move it to a different board, or delete it from the workspace.

The interface allows you to move between your board content and the canvas view. You can also undo and redo actions, share your canvas, and open the canvas in fullscreen for more working area. When fullscreen is active, the fullscreen controls appear in the toolbar.

When you select an image in Canvas, a top toolbar appears with direct actions for the selected image. Use the searchable Tools menu to find additional editing options including:

  • Use Smart resize to generate up to 10 platform-specific formats from a single image at once

  • Split Elements separates an image into canvas layers so you can work with the decomposed parts directly on the canvas

  • Camera angle lets you change image perspective using Direction, Elevation, and Zoom controls

  • Convert lets you choose Video or Vector output

  • Change lighting lets you relight an image with styles such as sun, moon, candle, firelight, neon lighting, or solid color, with available settings and model selection depending on the image and tool

For step-by-step instructions for using the available editing tools, see Editing images in Canvas.

For command-driven Canvas workflows, including built-in, workspace, and private skills, see Explore Canvas Skills.

At the bottom of every canvas, you will find a footer containing summary information related to both the board location and the canvas itself.

  • Left side: Expand nested content (if applicable), download the board, and view a summary of how many assets are within your board and how much storage is being used.

  • Right side: View a summary for the canvas, detailing how many items are within it and how many credits are available to you.

If you need more space to work, you can open the canvas in fullscreen. In layouts that support it, opening the sidebar pushes the app content rather than overlaying it. This behavior can vary by screen size.

When you're working with the canvas, a toolbar at the bottom provides several helpful utilities. You can:

  • Use the select tool for specific images

  • Switch to the hand tool to move around the canvas

  • Upload images from your desktop or storage

  • Add text and adjust font family, font style, font size, alignment, line height, and letter spacing

  • Change the zoom level of your canvas

From the top left of the canvas, access the 'More options' menu to move your canvas to another board, rename it, or delete it from the workspace. You can also use the dedicated buttons to undo and redo changes, or choose to share a canvas more broadly.

From Canvas Agent

To start designing, click the Air logo button in the bottom right corner to launch the AI agent sidebar. Here you can enter your prompts to generate content click the skills button or type / to view available Skill command suggestions and choose the workflow you want to run.

When you type @ in the Canvas AI chat composer and move through the suggested elements, Canvas highlights the matching element on the canvas in real time with a dashed border and label. This helps you confirm what will be referenced before you send your prompt.

You also have the ability to choose which AI model you prefer to work with. By default, the model is set to Auto, but clicking the Auto button allows you to toggle this setting off and select from several different LLMs and other AI models.

Keyboard shortcuts

Finally, selecting the keyboard icon in the bottom right corner brings a view of the available keyboard shortcuts. These shortcuts allow you to more easily navigate with the canvas open.
