How does Air Flow work?

Air Flow brings your workspace into Finder so you can choose what appears in sync, decide what stays online-only or available offline, and avoid blocked syncs with automatic duplicate resolution

Air’s desktop app integrates with your computer’s file system (Mac OS Finder) to make your entire workspace available on your computer, without opening the web browser.

Air Flow is designed for syncing existing workspace content to Finder and supporting offline access. For uploading new assets or coordinating simultaneous uploads from multiple users, use the Air web app at app.air.inc.

You can use Selective Sync to choose which Libraries or Boards appear on your computer and exclude others from sync altogether. For synced content, you can choose which assets and boards are downloaded to your computer (called ‘Offline’ files) and which files are visible but not yet downloaded (called ‘Online only’).

Sync vs. download for offline use: Syncing adds your workspace’s boards and folders to Finder so you can browse them, but files remain online-only until you open them or mark them available offline. Downloading for offline use saves selected boards or assets to your disk; syncing alone does not consume local storage. Selective Sync controls what appears in Finder at all, while offline download controls what is stored locally on your computer.

Important: Moving a synced item to Finder Trash removes it from the Air workspace, not only from local storage.

Initial workspace scan/indexing: During initial setup, Air Flow scans and counts every accessible item in your workspace to establish the Finder view. This required count-up phase cannot be prevented or limited, even if you select only certain libraries or boards with Selective Sync. Selective Sync can exclude items from actually syncing or appearing in Finder, but it does not exclude those items from being counted during the initial phase. Network speed, memory, and your local environment usually do not significantly affect counting; however if your connection drops during this phase, counting restarts. A rough estimate is about 2 seconds per 1,000 items, depending on workspace size and complexity.

Updates made to workspace files in Finder, including edits, moves, and deletions, appear in your workspace and on any other teammate’s synced computer after Air Flow successfully syncs them.
