So you're ready to upload your content?

Introduction

When working with Air, you have two options for adding assets to your workspace: uploads and imports. This article will provide an overview of the differences between the two options, as well as some common questions and answers.Whether you're storing content on Google Drive, Dropbox, a DAM, a hard drive or anywhere else, Air makes centralizing all of your content in one place simple.

There are four main ways to upload assets to your workspace:


Add Button

Use the Add button to upload content from your computer or import from any of our integrations with:

  • Dropbox

  • Box

  • Google Drive

Please note: Dropbox uploads can access personal folders associated with your account, but currently unable to upload "Shared with Me" folders.

Drag and Drop

Air's workspace also allows for an easy drag-and-drop option. Just pull a file or folder from your desktop and place into your workspace. This will upload the files directly onto the board you are currently working on.

Content Collection

Others outside of your workspace are also able to add files directly to your boards using out Content Collection feature. Content Collection forms can make it easy for collaborators to upload assets. They don’t even have to be an Air member - just create a unique link and the files can be uploaded right from their data storage. Get all the details about Content Collection forms here.

Air Flow

Air's powerful desktop application makes it easy to access your assets and files when you need them. Air Flow enables users to access their Air content locally right within Finder. This time-saving, convenient feature was built for creatives who use editing software, work in creative suites, and post social content. With local access, you can use your Air assets with any tool. Uploads vs. Imports

Uploads

Uploads are assets that are added locally, either as local files or folders. When you upload an asset, a modal will pop up and ask you to confirm which board/library to upload it to. You can pause and resume uploads on an asset level.

Imports

Imports are assets that are added from Dropbox, Box, or Google Drive. They will be added to the library or board at which the action is being initiated. Once you start an import, it cannot be paused.

Both uploads and imports can happen on the board and library level.

Note on Google Docs, Slides, and Sheets

Please note that Google Docs, Slides, and Sheets do not show up in the importer because we do not support them. The workaround would be for the user to download these files to their computer as .docx or .pptx files and then upload them to Air.

Uploading/Importing vs. Processing

Upload/Import

When you upload or import an asset, it is being added to Air. You will not see the placeholder for the asset until completion. This process requires no interruption, and your machine must be up and running with an internet connection.

Processing

When assets are being processed by Air to produce an appropriate preview, a placeholder is shown below until the asset preview is available. The thumbnail for the video is set by Air and cannot be edited by the user. No thumbnail will be provided for documents such as ppt, doc, xls, and key, but a preview as pdf is available once double-clicked. Air handles the work, so no internet connection or running machine is required.

What is the size limit for a single upload?

The size limit for a single upload is 5 TB.

How can I add a Shared folder to my own Dropbox to allow it to be imported?

To add a Shared folder to your own Dropbox, click on "Shared" on the left side of the Dropbox page. For any of the folders that appear there, click on "add to Dropbox". Once they are added, please refresh the page in Air and try importing again.
